"Tallahassaee Terror Claims UDLMCS !”

It was “Dirt Track Racing, South Georgia Style” Saturday night at Waycross Motor Speedway as the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series made their presence known in the Swamp. A fantastic night of dirt track racing with bumper to bumper, hard charging, edge of the seat racing action with almost 100 cars on the clay track at Waycross!
The young and the young-at-heart got treated as the “Easter Bunny” made her way through the pits and grandstands. Several special guests were in attendance including Mr. Eddie McDonald, a former Hot Shoe at Waycross with an astounding 1200 total racing victories in his career. Mr. Bobby Griffin, an “ole-time” flag man enjoyed the show and Mr. Cecil Eunice, a former award winning driver, also reminisced of his past racing days as the action got under way.
The Super Street Class, sponsored by NAPA , was the first to pull onto the track for their feature event. Brunswick ’s Paul Jones, 2009 WMS Champion, took the lead and kept it all the way to the checkered flag. Claiming second was Alma ’s Scott Crews and in third was Jimmy Peele from Jacksonville, Fla.
The Y-Delta Inc. Sponsored Limited Late Models raced onto the track for some of the best dirt action anywhere around! It was gear grinding, fast pace action until a serious altercation between Joe Fletcher from Valdosta , Scott Crews, Blackshear’s Dillon Turner and another driver. After the hard crash, Fletcher was taken to the ER to be later treated and released. Time was up on the feature event, so Waycross ’ Richard Jeffers Jr. took his first local feature win, Adam Parrish of Jacksonville claimed second and third place went to David Tyrell also from Jacksonville.
The earth trembling late model engines sprung into action as the green flag dropped. Not wasting a single moment, Tallahassee’s Tyler Ivey sprang into the front position and held tight until Ocala Fl’s Ivadent Lloyd took the lead away. On the edge of their seats or on their feet, fans took it all in as the chase for that coveted checkered flag was on! Round and round they went, and with only a few laps to spare, Ivey slid back into the front position to claim his second win of the 2010 season at Waycross.
When the dust settled it was Lloyd in the second position and Valdosta’s Russell Brown Jr. taking third. However, Brown was disqualified and Jeremy Faircloth from Swainsboro moved up into the third spot.
Last, but certainly not least, the Jones Transport Pure Stocks pulled out of the staging area and onto the track. Taking the checkered flag was Waynesville’s Chad Taylor, followed closely in second by Waycross’ Carl Moore and in third was Lake City’s Buddy Rohn.
The track owners and crew say “many, many thanks to all the fans who turned out for this fantastic race weekend!” Thanks to all the sponsors who donated the Easter Baskets and the prizes that were given to the kids during intermission.
Regular racing action will be back on April 17. Be sure and plan for the
“Battle of the Swamp” Super Late Model Race to be held May 7-8. It will include local classes in feature events plus some of the big names will be here to battle it out.
